Corporations in an open society are somewhat sensitive to boycott, but I suspect that in the case of countries, the worst regimes are fairly impervious.

As for not caring, I think there are many more people who simply do not realize how much real oppression is done in the world. It's not a subject for feel-good news broadcasts.

World War 2 was fought and won by millions of people who cared very deeply.

Joy, first of all I want to emphasize that I don't want to adopt either, but the fact is there are people who are willing to make the enormous effort.

Secondly, maybe we're not talking about the same thing here. I'm referring to slightly overweight people, not obese people with serious health problems. In that case, I agree with you. But there's such a thing as taking it too far and I believe that when people are healthy and perhaps five to ten kilos overweight they can't be considered as worse parents than people who are of ideal weight.

Most adopted children are not in danger of being exploited like you suggest.

I don't believe that older children in foster care are denied to slightly overweight people.

Being overweight is a big healt risk, they are just trying to protect the children, but that seems to make you angry.

Being adopted by anyone is a huge burden, the child loses so much in the process. I wouldn't wish being any part of it on anyone.

I'm not sure about that and anyway, I'm fully prepared to boycott other countries. Whatever is right. Unfortunately, I realize that a country like China might be impervious to any attempts at boycotting them. In any case, most people don't even seem to care and that's what upsets me the most.

Yes I agree the human rights violations of people in Tibet (and of course Uyghurs, Kashmir, etc) in indeed deplorable.

But I am against any type of bycott and here is why. China is not the only super-power playing around with the rights of the Tibet people or of other people under threat.

You have Russia with its Chechnya problem. You have the US with its myroid or problems in other countries. Here is an interesting piece the link to which I found on another blog which is interesting read:
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China/JC26Ad02.html

I think the best way to help the situation is create awareness of the situation, but also better understanding of the Chinese perspective. Rather then force and coercion a more peaceful way must be sought.

hi rosapolaris,
read the article and ya i agree the things happenning in india, but you know as the population is increasing and the human values are decresing so much, even men are so scared of their future and what's going on, see how many men are happy with their jobs, the answer is hardly a few of them, they are doing just out of no choice, even males get frightened to reveal the secrets, they want discreetness right!

now adays a young man is also in stress, especially upper middle class fellow! see i read the article as i am just browsing among the dating sites,i am a doctor 31 yrs, look quite good.though i like to earn money on the doctor line,it's not like prostitution, even men like to have their counterparts rich and spend a little ,even it is quite sexy the thought of a lady taking you for a date! what i mean is even men like to have a lady who is clean and without a burden to him. it's all depends on the self confidence which arises in him may be due to clean hygenic activities, good shape and actractiveness! even circumcised men feel that they are better than the others e.t.c so it is his quality that matters! but if it is india trust and discreet ness is so important ! it is not that i am encouraging that we or i can do,it is not like that majority of good looking guys want to be giglo's but they do like a discreet relation with a lady who is not a burdensome !

have a nice day,
